Spotlight on Orlando: Bento Cafe

A modern, chic restaurant in the heart of downtown Orlando with locations on Restaurant Row (Dr. Phillips) and in Gainesville and Jacksonville, Bento Cafe offers affordable, quick service with high quality dishes. With an amazing staff who stay on their toes to ensure to keep your glasses full and your tummies happy, this restaurant is my go-to restaurant for all things Asian in the Central and Northern Florida area.

Craving Japanese? Sushi? Thai? Chinese? Korean? Bento Cafe serves all cuisines without steering too close to the American-Asian fusion taste that I personally hate (you know, overly soy sauced, hardened white rice… gross). Authentically delicious and savory, they offer bento boxes, rice bowls, and noodle bowls with your dish. My personal favorites: Curry Katsu Chicken (if you like pork, I highly recommend it in pork – I’m personally not a pork eater but I have tried it and it’s AMAZING), Bulgogi Beef and their specialty, SPICY CREAM. Feeling like soup? They have a mixture of different kinds as well! I recommend the Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup or the Shrimp Tempura Udon Soup.

And I personally cannot forget their sushi! Bento Cafe’s sushi is unmatched with unique rolls at ridiculously affordable prices. My favorites include O-town roll, Gucci roll and Hot Lava roll. If you’re feeling hungry and want to order a lot of different rolls, I suggest the Sushi Combo Box. At $8.95 (before taxes) for a choice of two half rolls and a half roll of the California roll (12 pieces), it’s a steal! You can also order a Sashimi Bowl – your choice of sashimi atop sushi rice topped with seaweed salad, fresh avocados and their famous spicy mayo sauce – which is the cheapest one I have ever had! Wanting sushi without rice? They offer lower carb choices under the Kawaii Rolls (Thrilla in Manila is DELICIOUS!).

bentocafe02Why take my word for it? I worked there! And unlike most other restaurants I worked for, they are one I actually enjoyed working for and loved (my physique, however, did not.. the food was too good!). The management is amazing and I think they deserve to be among the best Pan-Asian restaurants in the east. Ask around! Most people who have been here agree that this is a MUST whenever you’re in the area.

…Still trying to get them to start a location in South Florida though. Here’s hoping!
