The Brew: Introducing Beck’s Sapphire

While Miami isn’t typically known for a large beer community, Beck’s changed the game by unveiling their latest offering in South Florida. Beck’s Sapphire clocks in at 6 percent ABV and is one of the higher-alcohol beers from the Anheuser-Busch family. It made it’s first debut on New Years Eve and was featured at celebrations all over Miami!

A golden pilsner, the beer is made with aromatic Saphir hops, which are grown and sourced in Germany. Since the beer is brewed in accordance with the purity law, Reinheitsgebot, it is made with only four primary ingredients. Fun fact: its sleek black bottle took two full years to develop. Our resident beer-lovers, Mark and Graham took the new brew out for a spin – check out what they thought below…

It’s always an exciting time when a new beer comes out. Its even more exciting when a known brewery makes a new beer. Beck’s, a long time favorite of mine has come out with Beck’s Sapphire. Beck’s Sapphire clocks in at 6.0% abv which is very high for a lager. It has a great smooth Pilsner flavor that is not overpowering to the taste buds. Light in color and in taste it the perfect beer for beginners and veterans alike. A great tasting beer, just be careful at 6.0% abv it can put you on your butt faster then you can say Beck’s Sapphire.

I must say it is a very elegant looking bottle, you don’t see many black beer bottles on the market today. After cracking one open, I noticed the smell is nothing like the regular Beck’s at all. It has a very smooth pearly smell, rich in hops, that definitely translated to the taste. It also has a clean crisp taste that was semi-refreshing. It had a unique touch to it and I appreciate that in a beer. For the price ($7.99 at Total Wine) I think it beats out the mainstream beers in terms of aroma, taste and the fact that it’s packaged in a black bottle means it will last longer in the sun during your outdoor events.
