Bento Box: Dee

Since there are eight members of The Collective Plate, we want to make sure you get to know each of us individually. Every week one of us will share a Bento Box, which is essentially a snapshot of what we’d had to eat recently. They’ll have accompanying commentary and we’d like to think of them as appetizers. Enjoy!

(a) Brussels Sprouts & Wilted Kale / Ice Box Cafe Miami Beach
The sprouts were perfection. Roasted, salted, then tossed in a bit of olive oil. The kale was good, but needed a pinch more salt. I usually prepare them baked, but this way was new and delicious.

(b) Blue Paw Wheat Ale / The Sea Dog Brewing Co.

World of Beer is easily any beer lover’s heaven. While I usually order cider (Magner’s Pear on ice, please), I’m a sucker for blueberries and ordered a sample of the Blue Paw. It literally made my taste buds happy and the brew-n-berries are the perfect combo.

(c) Smashfries / Smashburger
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m recently addicted (yes, addicted) to Smashburger. I usually do the Skinny Chicken with goat cheese and an order of Smashfries. The sandwich is great, and the fries are pretty good too. Imagine crispy frites marinated in olive oil, rosemary, sea salt, and garlic. Yum.

(d) Havana’s Cuban Cuisine
I can’t help but like a place that greets you with warm Cuban bread (with a topping of garlic butter). Havana’s mixes Cuban, Argentinean, and Mexican influences in their cooking. I had the steak, brown rice, and tostones. My steak was cooked medium and it was excellent. Plus, there was 2-for-1 sangria and the staff was fast and personable.

Woops, i forgot to mention why. Well, because roasted veggies are the best, especially if they’re brussel sprouts, and kale is a great alternative to meat as a source of iron! YUM!

Besides these sprouts and kale – they have an out of this world selection of desserts. They have so many flavors ice box cake – the original ice cream cake. My favorite is the German Chocolate!
